Hospitality: Office Bearer Led Assimilation
by Henry Reyenga

Early Church Known for Hospitality

• Clement of Rome 96 AD.

“Has anyone, indeed, stayed with you without attesting the excellence and firmness of your faith? Without admiring your sensible and considerate Christian piety? Without broadcasting your spirit of unbounded hospitality?”

Organize your office Bearer in Hospitality

1 Peter 4:9 Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.

Qualification of an Office Bearer

Make a Schedule

Titus 1:8 Rather he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined.

What Does the Office Bearer Do?

• The pastor and the office Bearer pick a date

• Invite new attendees with existing attendees for Lunch or Dinner after church

• Meeting to last two-three hours no more.

• The Office Bearer will conduct a simple meeting.

The Meeting

• Introductions with name tags. Maybe let people tell a little about themselves and how they found out about the church.

• Eat.  It is usually a good idea to allow the persons invited to allow them to bring something if that person or family asks.

• While eating, conduct the conversations so that everyone gets an opportunity to talk.

• End the Eating time with doing a Bible reading passage.  If you church has a reading plan, do the Bible reading for the day.

• Have the Elder or Leader share why they grow at the church.

• If comfortable, ask each about each person’s spiritual journey

• Keep an eye out for gifts and interests and report your findings to the pastor(s) at the monthly leaders meeting.

• Dismiss the group. Keep the meeting under three hours.  This is important if hospitality is sustainable.

Some Reproducible Things

• Stay away from perfect house syndrome

• Train your office bearers not to dominate discussions or to be the answer people

• Under delivering is better than over delivering

Hospitality is the portal to more fully being the Body of Christ

The Body of Christ-

• Romans 12:4 Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
