The Christian Leader Notes: You must be a disciple to make disciples.

Evaluate yourself rather than assume (2 Cor 13:5-6)

  • Paul’s example (1 Cor 9:26-27)- Didn’t want to be disqualified
  • The example of Sardis (Rev 3:1-3)- Reputation versus character

Understand Salvation (Acts 2:36-41)

Repentance (Rev 2:5, 16)

Baptism (1 Peter 3:21-22)- The example of Noah’s ark

The Holy Spirit (Romans 8:9-17)- the internal change

Count the Cost of Following Jesus- (Luke 14:25-35)

Examine the soil you are working with (Matt 13:1-23)

Find security in Christ alone (Philippians 3:7-9)

  • Don’t minister out of insecurity.  You reproduce yourself.
  • Actions are the result of salvation/security, not the cause of it

Suggested action

Hear the testimony of each person in your group.  Listen intently so you know how to best minister to them.

  • Everyone is like the older brother or younger brother in the prodigal son story (Luke 15:11-32).  Some self-righteously overemphasize works. Others flippantly sin. Some need to better understand grace, others sanctification.  Help them pursue both.

Success:  Everyone in your group understands the cost of discipleship- what it means to follow Jesus.
