Physical Evidence of the Creator

Romans 1:18-25

18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.

24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

Clearly seen

When I think of the eye, I shudder. To suppose that the eye could have been formed by natural selection seems absurd in the highest degree. (Charles Darwin)

What may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. (Romans 1:19-20)

An eye, an ear, or a hand is a complex mechanism serving a particular function. It looks as if it had been made for a purpose. This appearance of purpose is pervading in nature. (Atheist George Gaylord Simpson)

The cell is thus a minute factory, bustling with rapid, organized chemical activity. (Atheist Francis Crick)

Biology is the study of things that give the appearance of having been designed for a purpose. (Atheist Richard Dawkins)

Exchanging truth for a lie

All appearances to the contrary, the only watchmaker in nature is the blind forces of physics... Natural selection, the blind, unconscious automatic process ... which we now know is the explanation for the existence and apparently purposeful form of all life, has no purpose in mind. (Atheist Richard Dawkins)

Faith commitment

Even if there were no actual evidence in favor of the Darwinian theory, we should still be justified in preferring it over all rival theories. (atheist Richard Dawkins)

We have a prior commitment, a commitment to materialism… that materialism is absolute, for we cannot allow a Divine Foot in the door. (atheist Richard Lewinton)

Educated fools

For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools… They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator. (Romans 1:21-25)

General revelation

We know God by two means: First, by the creation, preservation, and government of the universe, since that universe is before our eyes like a beautiful book in which all creatures, great and small, are as letters to make us ponder the invisible things of God: God’s eternal power and divinity. (Belgic Confession, Article 2)

Special revelation

All these things are enough to convict humans and to leave them without excuse.

Second, God makes himself known to us more clearly by his holy and divine Word,
as much as we need in this life, for God’s glory and for our salvation. (Belgic Article 2)

Glorify and thank

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. (Psalm 19:1)

The whole earth is full of his glory. (Is. 6:3)

O Lord my God, you are very great! You are clothed with splendor and majesty… How many are your works, O Lord! In wisdom you made them all. (Psalm 104:1, 24)
