Course Description
In this course, you will learn the foundations of Psychology in theory and in practice, all from the Biblical worldview. The topics will give you the history of Psychology, who its proponents are, how to understand the human mind and behavior, as well as psychological disorders and their effects on the brain and human relationships. The ultimate goal of this curriculum is to help you, the ministry practitioner, to integrate, adapt and use psychological concepts and best practices in your ministry context.
Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, you will have:- Reviewed and understood the basic concepts and definitions in Psychology.
- Learned how to adapt and integrate psychological concepts in your ministry context.
- Summarized the history of Psychology's founders and their key theories.
- Developed a foundational understanding of human behavior and self-awareness.
- Built an understanding of Psychological disorders and personality traits that will provide tools for ministry.

This course provides an overview of the topics within psychology. Please read all readings posted in each Unit that are in ADDITION to the textbook and the assigned chapters in your text for each topic. All content in the readings and in your text will be covered in each quiz in this course.
In this section, we examine the key Scriptures that provide origin and foundations for Psychology.
Review the top 25 terms used in Psychology for this course and the Bible passages that give evidence of how the discipline of Psychology comes from God.
Unit 2: Key Figures and their main ideas in 19th to 20th Century Psychology History

Unit 3: Biological Psychology
Read the biological psychology section in Chapter 2 of your textbook, Introduction to Psychology.
View the video that pertain to this section.
The quiz will cover content from the textbook and videos.
Unit 4: Biology of Psychology: Sensation and Perception
READ ALL of CHAPTER 4 for UNIT 4. Be sure to take notes on all definitions and explanations in each section.
Unit 5: Accuracy and Inaccuracy in Perception
READ ALL of CHAPTER 5. Pay SPECIAL attention to section 5.5 and following. Please take notes on terms and definitions in preparation for the Unit Quiz.
Unit 6: Hypnosis and Sensory Deprivation
Chapter 6 (section 6.3), discusses the altering of the mind without using drugs. Read all of this since all content from Chapter 6.3 will be in the quiz. Focus on key words and their definitions and pay attention to the PowerPoints and video that presents the PowerPoint as this will reinforce the reading content and help you to pass the quiz.
Unit 7: Cognitive Development
READ ALL of CHAPTER 7 for the Unit 7 Quiz. Please take notes on all terms and definitions.
Unit 8: Learning Theory
Read chapter 8 in your text as they are foundation to the video and quiz. All content on these pages will be on the quiz for this topic.
Unit 9: Social Learning
Read chapter 8 in your textbook on social learning, dilemmas and the use of principles of learning principles in everyday behavior.
View both videos as they will address all content in the quiz.
Unit 10: The Experience of Emotion
Read chapter 11 in your textbook. ALL content on these pages will be on the quiz for this topic. All content in this chapter is covered in the instructional video with Dr. Mark.
Unit 11: Emotion & Motivation
Read chapter 11 in your textbook. This short chapter discusses the concepts of motivation and emotion. All of the content in this chapter along with content in the PowerPoint (used in the video with Dr. Mark) that goes with this will be in the quiz.
Unit 12: Personality Defined
Read chapter 12 in your textbook. All content in this section of the text will be reflected and specified on the quiz for this topic. Review the attached PowerPoint for this topic as well since it will highlight key terms and figures.
Unit 13: Origins of Personality
Read chapter 12 in your textbook as the authors take you through the origins of Personality via Frued, Maslow, and others. The attached PowerPoint reflects the content in this section of the book on the origins of Personality.
Unit 14: Self-Humanism and Self Actualization
In your textbook, read chapter 12 as this section covers the topics of self-humanism and self actualization. This will help you to understand how the mainstream field of psychology thinks of the human mind and behavior. As you read, convert what you are thinking into Biblical concepts of God's image and His purpose for our lives. Key Scriptures that apply to these concepts include Genesis 1:26-29 and I Corinthians 12.
Unit 15: Psychological Disorders Defined
Read Chapter 13 on Psychological Disorders in your textbook and how they are defined. All of its content will be on the quiz.
Unit 16: Psychological Disorders Cont'd
Read Chapter 13 in your textbook on MORE on psychological disorders. Please review the PowerPoint that is posted in this topic on this as well as presented by Dr. Mark.Help Support Christian Leaders!
