Small Group Size

The whole infrastructure of the leadership culture and much of the ministry culture is done in small groups.

Each small group setting has a different purpose and needs a different approach.

Start With Recruited Advisory Leaders

Worship Leaders

You are the first producer.

You create the stage.

You pick the music that connects to the people group you are reaching.

Watch out for the egotist music worship leaders.

Watch out for the volunteer imbalance. 

Discipleship Teams

Recruit those who love mentoring and education of children and/or adults (future elders training).

Run the Christian Education team.

Come up with short term small groups and seminars.

Lead permanent education offerings.

Young Christian Leaders Team

Recruit leaders who will lead in the raising up of young Christian leaders.

Team of 2-5 adults who sense the calling

Get the young people together with the expectation that they are the future leaders of Christianity

Create a stage for them to do music and worship

Sign up YCL into CLI

Child Care Team

Back Ground Checks

Always at least two people with the children

Design your offering for the “paranoid” parent

Find leaders with passion

Pay if you need to to have high quality care

Recruit Money Counters (2 at each service)

The spending and prioritizing of money is the work of the ruling elders not deacons

Develop a budget

Communicate how the funds are coming in

Put a Pastor Salary Plan in place appropriate to “one income” of the middle class of the people group of the primary funders and leaders. Salary amount to be decided upfront with senders and advisors. 

Stair step the salary for bi-vocationals 

25% first year

50% second year

75% third year

100% fourth year

125% fifth year

3-5% sixth year increases

Tied to growth in numbers and giving

Promotion Team/Evangelism

Leaders who are called talk about and execute promotion and evangelism plans. 

Emphasis on Word of Mouth

Recruit Future Deacons

Meet to develop the local plan

Schedule hospitality to newcomers

Discuss the best practices for assimilation

Make connection of newcomers with existing participants

Recruit the Pastoral Care Team

Commission as Small Group Leaders (Deacons)

Learn the methodology of starting ministry small groups

The Leaders Team is the pastoral care work of the ministry deacons. 

Shepherding the church

Counseling

Identify the problems

Refer difficult matters to specialized helpers

Connect mentors if possible

Have clear end dates in mind and communicate this up front
