Transcription of the Interview of President Henry Reyenga and Reverand Bob Zomermaand

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA:  Hi, President Reyenga here. I am so excited today because Reverend Bob Zomermaand is with me he is doing a great work at Christian leaders Institute, Bob has been overseeing the degree program. Oh, and by the way, we're gonna open ourselves up to questions here, after we talk a little bit. So if some of you on Facebook, want to ask a question, we'll hear from Wally. He'll give us some insights on that. So be ready. Okay, never know what happens. We just gone into the campus here with everybody, and we're going to talk a little bit. Anyway, Bob has been working on various classes in the past, and he is get ready to start doing the video taping on actually, first of all the live presentations, it'll be captured by video put into a chaplaincy class. So tell me a little bit about the chapter of the class that we're gonna talk a little bit about the chapel, the ministry Chaplain ordination program that's going to be coming up in the future. So first of all, tell me a little bit about the class.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND:  The class is going to introduce us to the whole idea of chaplaincy, but also one of the things that I'm doing is making it clear that another aspect of this would be Chatplaincy. Okay, so

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA:  That whole thing we're working with already? The chat CHAT.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND:  That's right. Yeah,

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA:  So Chaplain chaplaincy, but also attention to the CLI program of chaplaincy.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND:  Yes, for for for decades. If you were going to be a chaplain, you needed to go to some place where the people with needs were found. Today, we can do that online. Yes!. And people are going online to look for someone who can be there with them.Right! And our context, CLI is that when we go online, or when one of you goes online, as a chatplain, that you would be there to bring the presence of God to hurting people. Right! And the everything about this class is talking about how do we bring God's presence into a workplace, or a public service situation like police or fire departments, and so on, and we bring that presence of God to others.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA:  Now, this class, there was actually I would call like, a god incident, a miracle a, like a moment that you just can't make up there. So tell me that story. You mentioned a little bit but I want I want everyone to hear this story. Because this, this has happened that Christian leaders and students repeatedly, repeatedly where things you just can't make this happen, like we got this building in spring, like, how this happens. The big sir, I'll tell you that some other times. What happened? That you just say, God, you are amazing.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND:  Well, I was going through the various aspects of chaplaincy, and one of them, for back of a better term is called industrial chaplaincy.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Like workplaces!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: At a workplaces

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Or business.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: And in looking around on the internet for some ideas about materials for us, I came across a little note in the United States Pentagon, Chaplain area,

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Okay!,

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: that said that there was this guy that I knew personally, who had written a whole monograph about industrial chaplaincy in 1977 a way

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Back then!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: in 1977.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Okay!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: he had written this thing. And as I mentioned in the course room, when we're when you when you take it, you'll notice that he talks a lot about industrial chaplaincy in 1977, the United States economy still had a lot of industry.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Right!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: Right. And today, it's, it's far more service industries,

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: okay!.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: But it's still a place where God's presence needs to be find.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Right in the market place?

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND::R I find this thing, and now it was written by a friend of mine. He, a little over a year ago now was killed in a car accident.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Aw!

He was at a conference. And he came out of the conference, and a hit and run driver hit and killed him. And that was and that was it.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Aw!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: So he has, he has been dead for some time now. But I was looking for stuff and I thought if I could get a hold of his material,

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Right.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: That would make a great unit.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Yeah, Yeah!.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: And so I, I contacted the church where he had been up Pastor and asked the church secretary, was she all aware of this? And she said, No, but I'll call his wife.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Okay!.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: And so she called the widow. And the widow said, Oh I know just what you're talking about. Last week, I was going through some of the house things. And I found this thing that he wrote in 1977. Who wants this? And I threw it into a pile that was gonna go into a shredder,

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: A shredder?

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: a shredder, and I'll go get it back. And so she hadn't been aware that she had it two weeks earlier.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Right!.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: And if I had waited a couple of weeks, if I hadn't been later, it would have been shredded.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA:  Right! Is this the only known copy? This was 77. Before really the internet.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: O yeah!

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Before a really computer, just before it even voted in early computer would have not been retrievable, hard copy.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: hard copy,

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: The one of a kind, like a rare coin, or rare jewel. Two weeks earlier, she would have done knowing what the shred was,

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: Yeah!,

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Two weeks later would have been.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: it would have been shereded.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND:  And so it was, it was wonderful. And so I, I managed to get it all scans on. So we've got it now.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Okay!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: part one of the module

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: So one the readings resources.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: Yeah

H So this is what's happening, a revolution of raising every type of leadership is occurring. I have no doubt about that. And in this, you know, in the Wikipedia page, we're called the premium education, where, hey, it's all free. It's all free, it's supported by donations. And we're all in this together. And the Lord is using you connect into this piece of literature that was very important for this class.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: Yeah. And what what else is kind of interesting is that you just was a time slot.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Yeah.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: Where she knew where it was.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Yeah.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: Otherwise, she was said o l wrote something in 77, what's that?.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA:  Yeah. Yeah. I mean, 77. I was in high school.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: Yes.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA:  Yeah. That's a long time.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: I know. it's a long time in 1977. I was in seminary.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Right!.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA:  Now. Okay, so what else is in this class? What are some of the focus. R some of the topics are?

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND:  Well, first of all, the whole thing is built around the idea of a manual. Okay. God with us. And so I begin by looking at the whole idea of a manual.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Okay!.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: And then we go into talking about chaplaincy, as it relates to us as a person, what do we need to be?

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Okay!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: To be a chaplain?

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Okay!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: And how does that fit into our lives? And I talked about chaplaincy to the ill.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Okay!.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: chaplaincy to the dying,

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Okay!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: chaplaincy to those who are grieving.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Okay!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: because all of these are things that are there. They're powerful moments in people's life.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Right!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: And so often, they're saying, where's God? Where? Where's God? I just lost my husband.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Right!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: 40 years,

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA Right!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: Where's God? And that's when the chaplain brings the presence of God into your life.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA:  This is going to be an incredible class. I actually because I'm the president, then secret power, and not secret but special power to look at that, I was I've been going through this class and doing it. I will be like, Ooh, good. I thought that industrial chaplain thing. Then I will go like, well look at this like for like a fire department or I've got stuff in here that is so relevant for ministry, ministry leaders, and in each community worldwide.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND:  Yeah!. Yeah. And actually, you know, people were like, get sick. Oh,

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Yeah!. Yep.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: People worldwide are facing terminal illness.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA:, Yes, Yeah!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: people worldwide are grieving in one way another, people around the world are going to work and wondering where's guy?

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Well I know!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: They're going to! well, and when I'm talking about chaplaincy with the fire department, I mentioned a friend of mine, who this past New Years.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA:  Oh wait I one to tell somebody, this guy knows everybody. So I feel like, I mean, it's like this person that, you know that person, no, no and he does. Okay. I get around. No, I, know. It's like I love this and they have to work.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: A friend of mine on New Year's Eve. His house burned down. And what what happened? You know, as he was describing he says, I, I was there and I watched the fire department put everything you finally out at about 2am,

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Okay!.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: And he said to himself, well, I guess we might as well go home. And then he realized there was no home to go to. And it was at that moment that he felt so alone,

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Right!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: And so question, why did God do this to me?

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Right!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: Have no home.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Right!.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: And there's people all over the world experience that they have floods happen, don't have a home.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA:  So, this chapter, the class, will address early on, on chaplaincy to those who are victims of a fire or a natural disaster. But it will also even probably help those service providers

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND:  All indeed because service provider needs to have gotten present in their life deeply in order for this to happen.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA:  Okay, one more thing. And then I know you're going to do a live class today. Now. So if you're, if you want to hear more, and even if some sample of classes is normal, where we are going to do is have presentations done here live, you can get first look, live, and then we're gonna capture them and put them in these classes in the our digital campus. And we are all in this together. But one thing we're excited about is going to be the chaplaincy ordination. That is, and this is not going to be necessarily that easy to get because there's going to be other classes, we're close to being done with recording of a counseling class for marriage. We're working on a class called Narrative Therapy. We've been working just recently, you have been leading and developing a class with someone in California Christian Leader in California,

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: Facing children in the faith,

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Raising children in the faith, these are all going to be important connection things, we'll probably put some electives in there, like the women in ministry class. So this is going to be a ordination level at Christian leaders Institute. We are we're not we don't have all the details. And maybe it could even be a Bachelor degree because we're close to getting half the amount for classes for something like this brings a strong credential for you to do ministry leadership.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND:  So, and Henry just two days ago, this reminded me of something that we need to put in the hopper and find somebody to do this. Two days ago, I was with my wife at a place and these other people were saying, Oh, you have such a wonderful husband in the person said. Would you be willing to teach a class on how to be a husband?

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Right!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: Because she said, I think there's a lot of guys don't know how to be a husband. That would be a class, if our chaplains alongside somebody, right, and things like that, I can help you be better husband.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA:  We have a class that's going to be in this program called ministry conversations, where we get like Dr. Kevin Lehmann and other key leaders, I talked about husband's birth order. So that's already done. And so that could be in here. And then as you're saying, these chaplains can give these classes. The train, the receipt here can be multiplied everywhere. Well, I am so excited about what God is doing at Christians, like early standard, because he is at work, God is at work. And in your the fruit of that work. You leaders are out there. So I don't know while I do have any questions?.

STUDENT:  Jan says that she's looking forward to the chaplain, ordination Do you have any of, what is chaplains do and what are their duties?

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA:  So, the ministry Chaplain ordination? What are somebody else duties? What would they actually do as we roll this out? And this could be like, probably next year, I would say, early next year a little bit.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND:  Let's take for example, a chaplain in a fire department.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA:  Okay, so the question was by what would the chaplain ordination, what would they do? So,

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND:  What are the duties they would have? All across the United States? And I don't know about other parts of the world, but I do have a good clue of what the United States is. Fire departments want to have chaplains, right?

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Volunteer Chaplain.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: Volunteer.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: At some places even give a stipend.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND:  But mostly it's volunteer

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Volunteers. Okay!.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: And what the chaplain does is the chaplain is a presence they go to the firehouse right when the firemen are there, right. Hang out with them,

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Right!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: Am, one of the one of the ideas of that is when these firemen go to a fire, they have no idea what they're going to run.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Right!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: And sometimes they run into really sad stuff.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Right!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: You need to have a report.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Right!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: Already built.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Right!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: So then they can come to you and say, Where was God when this child died in this fire?

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Right!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: Yeah. That's a big duty.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Right!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: It's ministry to the firemen. Yeah, yeah. Another duty that they have is when they become a well established Fire department chaplain. They are often asked for providing the invocation and fire department activities, right. They are asked to lead in weddings,

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Right!.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA:  If somebody lists this ordination, you will be ordained as clergy to lead a wedding

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND:  To be able to do a wedding and when someone you know, there's retired fireman who die,

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Right!

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: If they don't have a pastor, oftentimes the Fire department chaplain will be asked to officiate a funeral. And it just goes on and on like that.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Okay

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: it's, it's really a full formed Pastoral ministry, in a specific communities situation.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA:  And now Now a local pastor would enjoy having a chaplain on staff, all indeed. So like, let's say, you know, you're in this is where there could be some ministry, possibly stipends or salary. I know in the past that we paid churches that I planted, we actually had a part time position for you know, someone to visit the sick now I don't want to do it. So this would be a perfect for many non denominational churches, Pentecostal churches, where the church to the larger in the pastor would like someone to help them. Maybe someone who man or a woman who is called in handles ordination can be really.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND:  Yeah! Because then this ordination shows that you have put in some effort, you have to be properly trained, right. One of the things that a chaplain friend of mine wrote me is that one thing, and he's in the military,

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Okay.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: He says, one thing that we struggle with in the military is that we get some people who don't want to training, right? And then they just mess everything up.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Yeah.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: You have to go through the training. And then you do so much better. And that's why this is really neat. Put together a whole structured track for chaplains.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA:  Yeah, that's good. That's good. Any other questions?

STUDENT:  That sounds perfect, like the perfect way to Minister. Thank you

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA  18:00

Okay.

STUDENT:  What is the difference between Chaplain and Chatplain?

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: Okay.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA:  Why don't you talk about that, that

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND:  The difference between Chaplain and Chatplain is what the chaplain is, personally, physically,

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Just like a traditional Chatplain, yes.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: Yeah!

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: And the chatplain is someone who establishes some kind of rapport online,

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: Right! It's still personal.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Yeah.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: But it's online. And in a, in a chat room situation,

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA:  Right! …Or like a prayer board or, you know, again, it's crystal is sort of coining this. Because we refered and moving on that and again, it's it's just our word right now. But we see a lot of people who struggle with disabilities, they can leave home. And some of you are so called the ministry and you're not necessarily going to get very often. But you're training for ministry.

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: Yeah.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: So we want to see though in the world of the net, the internet, a whole new chatplaincy concept where we're ministering to people but trained.

STUDENT: But train that just somebody out there going out pious words, we want somebody who knows how to, to engage with others, and help them in their pain.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA  19:26

Yeah, that's right. That's right. That's good. Any Wally any other questions?

STUDENT: Think we just answered in their guidance of what is a Chatplain.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Okay. We know I'm gonna let you go, I know you have some more lives, sharing. I don't want to ruin what you have bled what you have prepared today. But I am so just filled with gratitude to the Lord so thrilled with what is happening in your work, not just in this chaplaincy class, but really in the last couple years now, even more now that we've been really getting to know one another,

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: 3 years,

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: 3 years,

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: Yeah,

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: I mean I, when I first met you, I had no idea that they the Lord would bring us together to make an impact the way he has, so I want to pray with you and

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: Okay for this whole

REVERAND BOB ZOMERMAAND: Please do.

PRESIDENT HENRY REYENGA: Lord I just lift up Bob. I'm so grateful for his contribution to raising up Revival leaders everywhere in the world. And I pray Lord that as he developed this Chaplain class that has implications for chaplaincy, for chaplaincy, Lord, we pray that you will guide him by your Holy Spirit now and may this class be a powerful tool, to train to equip, to set free to mobilize leaders all over the globe in Jesus name, amen. Amen.
