APPLYING CHAPTER 2

1. Describe a time you felt God’s presence in a special way. Biblically and theologically, how do you explain that, given the fact that we also know God is everywhere all the time?

2. Think about a typical worship experience in your church.
a. Would a visitor conclude that the program is designed primarily to attract God, to attract visitors, or to please the church members?
b. Based on your best understanding of worship, how truly worshipful are most of your church services?
c. How many of your people actively participate in worship? How many just go through the motions?
d. If any of these need to be improved, what steps will you take?

3. Do your people know how to recognize when God is present in a special way?
a. Do they know what to do to encourage and welcome that presence?
b. If not, what will you do to teach them?

4. What are some of the most unusual things you have heard of happening in a church service?
a. How can you tell when it is God moving, and when it has another source?
b. If God does something unusual in your service, what will you do?
c. If something not of God happens in your service, what will you do?

5. Is there anything in your church that might offend God’s Holy Spirit or quench his activity? If so, what will you do about it?
