Time: The Currency of Life

For Ministry Officiants, time is a precious commodity entrusted by God, reflecting a fundamental stewardship that demands wisdom and generosity in its use. The Bible, rich in wisdom, offers profound insights into how we are to view and utilize our time under God’s sovereignty.

Old Testament Insight

The Psalmist reflects a deep understanding of the transient nature of life and the importance of using time wisely when he prays in Psalm 90:12, "So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom." This acknowledgment of life’s brevity coupled with a plea for divine guidance in living wisely encapsulates the Old Testament perspective on time as a finite resource that must be used with discernment and purpose.

New Testament Exhortation

In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul provides a clear directive on the use of time in Ephesians 5:15-16: "See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil." Here, Paul emphasizes the importance of living deliberately and wisely, making the most of every opportunity to serve God’s purposes, especially in challenging times.

Applying the Principle

For Ministry Officiants, this biblical wisdom translates into a conscientious approach to time management that prioritizes activities aligning with God’s will and kingdom advancement. It involves:

  1. Prioritizing Ministry Activities: Allocating time to preaching, teaching, and pastoral care, ensuring these core activities are not neglected amidst other demands.
  2. Personal Discipleship: Committing time to personal spiritual growth through prayer, study of the Word, and fellowship with other believers. This personal edification is crucial for effective ministry.
  3. Family: Investing time in family, recognizing that nurturing these primary relationships is foundational to one’s ministry and witness.
  4. Community Engagement: Engaging with the community not only as a form of service but as a practical demonstration of God’s love and kingdom principles in action.

This approach not only furthers God's kingdom but also models a godly way of life that can inspire and encourage others to do the same.
