1. Identify major insights of contemporary leadership and management theory that apply to leadership and management in ministry settings.
2. Know key biblical stories and principles for leadership and management.
3. Apply principles of team building, motivation, delegation, communication, and integrity.
4. Discern how to be a godly change agent while being aware of existing power structures and decision-making processes.
5. Understand and practice tactful leadership as displayed in the book of Philemon.
Management sometimes sounds like something necessary but perhaps a bit boring. But management was really a key part of what Jesus did during the three years of His earthly ministry. He helped people use their gifts and abilities towards a goal that was worth their passion and energy.
If you are a leader, a pastor, a Christian business leader, then you need the principles discussed in this course.
The Bible is a rich resource for how to manage people. This course uses Bible stories, examples from Jesus' ministry, and the whole book of Philemon. This small book of the Bible contains the letter that the Apostle Paul wrote to a fellow church member named Philemon. In this letter, Paul demonstrates how you deal tactfully with a difficult relationship issue.
This class includes resources from many books and articles. All required materials are posted here. The final four units focus on Steve Elzinga's downloadable book, How to Influence Friends and Tactfully Get Along with People. You can download the PDF version for free, or read it online, or buy a hard copy from Christian Leaders Institute at the Bible Study Tools section. https://www.christianleadersinstitute.org/bible-study-tools
View all online lectures and read all articles in each topic. CLI computer tracks whether you do this. After viewing all the lectures for the unit, take the quiz based on the lectures (100% of grade).
A 95-100% A- 90-94% B+ 87-89% B 83-86% B- 80-82% C+ 77-79% C 73-76% C- 70-72% D+ 67-69% D 63-66% D- 60-62% F 0-59%
Your average grade for all assignments in the class must be at least 60%. Otherwise, you will fail the class and will receive no course credit.
Each course forum is at the beginning of the course, right before the first course content section, and has comments and questions from other students in the class. The forum is a great way to post a question or comment for other students who are currently enrolled in the course to see. Additionally, you can search the forum to see if anyone in the past has addressed or discussed the issue, question, or comment you were wanting to post about.
Note: You must complete all work by the final deadline of the course. If you are not done by that date, you will have to take the class again to receive credit.
In Conclusion: Watch the Presentations. Read the attached readings. Take the quizzes. But most importantly start putting the principles that you learn into practice in your relationships.
